This Kiwi-'British' dictionary is a light hearted way of looking at the differences we have found since emigrating from England to New Zealand
- Bach (pronounced batch) / crib = Holiday home
- Capsicum = Pepper
- Cell = Mobile phone
- Cheese roll = Cheese mixture in a rolled up slice of white bread then heated
- Chilly bin = Cooler box
- Chips/chippies = Crisps
- Chips/hot chips = Chips
- Dairy = Corner shop
- Drapes = Curtains
- Dub-dub-dub = w.w.w.
- Duvet Inner = Duvet/Quilt without the cover
- 'eh' (as in hey) = Said at the end of questions
- Flat = Rental property, even small houses
- 'Good' = Said after the question 'how are you?'
- Gumboots = Wellingtons
- Hearth pan & brush = Dust pan & brush
- Horse Float = Horse box
- Hot Dog = Battered sausage on a stick
- Jandals = Flip-flops
- Lollies = Sweets
- Lolly scramble = What happens when sweets are thrown into a crowd
- 'Lux', (as in Electrolux) = Hoover (as in vacuum cleaner!)
- Manchester = Linen & towels
- O.E. = Overseas Experience, taken by most students
- 'On Call' account = Instant access bank account
- 'Our Mate' = 'Marmite'
- Pants = Trousers
- Post Shop = Post Office
- Real Estate = Estate Agents
- Reserve = Park land
- 'Rice Bubbles' = 'Rice Crispies'
- Sausage sizzle = Lots of Barbequed sausages wrapped in a slice of white bread
- Section = Plot of land
- Singlet = Vest
- Station = Very Large Farm
- Togs = Swimsuit
- Town house = One of two identical houses next to each other.
- Tramping = Hiking or trekking
- T.V. = Adverts on every channel some with 'liberal' language - no watershed!
- 'Twink' = 'Tippex'
- Vest = Sleeveless Jacket/body warmer
- 'Vivid' = Permanent Marker (felt tip pen)
- Weed eater = Strimmer
- 'Wh' (in Maori words) = Pronounced 'f'
- 'Woolworths' = Food Supermarket
- Yogurt (pronounced 'yow-guert') = Yogurt
